As you might have seen earlier in the year, the Compact are creating a new short film that will showcase arts and culture across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole, using new footage alongside archival recordings to advocate for our creative industries both regionally and nationally.
Through this project, we aim to promote our towns as cultural destinations and help residents and visitors understand the amazing work done by artists and organisations within their communities.
We’re thrilled to say that, following an inspiring and rigorous recruitment process, we have commissioned local filmmaker Chuckie McEwan to produce and direct this film. We’re now looking for artists and organisations to be spotlighted onscreen, in any of the following ways:
Makers in their Spaces:
We would love to feature a variety of local artists and organisations through this film, ensuring that we represent different artforms and spaces around BCP. You could be a dance school in Parkstone, a visual artist in Christchurch, a theatre maker in Broadstone, a musician in Highcliffe, a poet in Hamworthy. We want to present a cinematic portrait of BCP’s creative community, told by the people who make it.
If you are interested, please could you email me your name, a brief description of your practice, and whether there is a particular space around BCP that links to your work – it could be where you make, where you perform, or somewhere that inspires you (the beach, a particular forest, Canford Heath, etc). We would also love to know your availability in early November, particularly around the 10th, 11th, and 12th November.
Archive Footage:
We would love to feature existing footage/images of cultural events across BCP from the last three years, particularly those that are large-scale. This work will be used in a collage-style edit, with each snippet featured for no more than a couple of seconds. If you have something that could be used, can I invite you to send me material that we are able to use for this purpose in the highest possible resolution, either via WeTransfer or Google Drive. If footage can be offered in-kind then that would be hugely appreciated, but otherwise we can look at licencing agreements.
You’re welcome to share this with your networks, and let me know if you have any questions via our email at info@cutlturalcompact.org.uk. If you are interested, please respond by Tuesday 20th October.
