Last week the Cultural Compact were thrilled to welcome fifty-eight local artists and organisations to our Culture Network event at Lighthouse Poole, delivered in partnership with Natasha Player and the Your Shout Network.
The session centred around a panel discussion, moderated with Natasha, exploring different journeys that leading Global Majority artists have taken to develop their careers in the arts. The speakers included Keith Kirk (Code Music Group), Alix Harris (Beyond Face Theatre Company), Zoe Li (Yeovil Art Space), and Nyah Boston-Shears (Lighthouse Poole), all of whom were warmly received and made time to speak with attendees before and afterwards.
The whole event took place in Lighthouse’s gallery space, which is currently hosting a phenomenal exhibition, ‘The Past is Present’, curated by Sharon James with Development Education in Dorset (DEED.) Sharon was in attendance and introduced attendees to her ever-evolving Blackground works with nine new pieces, a film essay and a book of 50 images with the stories that lead to their creation.
Thank you to everyone who came and got involved in the conversations. We’re very excited to see the impact the Culture Network has had on artists locally, bringing people together to meet and develop tighter relationships, regardless of artform. Our next event will be announced soon, to take place in January 2027.
