Cultural Compact Newsletter (July)

This month we’ve got a wide range of events and opportunities available for artists and organisations across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. Read on for the latest news, including some exciting things from the Cultural Compact –

Cultural Compact:

I’d love to invite you to attend our next Culture Network event, which will be happening in Boscombe on 18th July. This time we’re delighted to be partnering with In the Making, a local collective of artists gathering to amplify Dorset’s emerging voices. On the night there will be the chance to meet and network with a variety of artists and organisations from different disciplines, as well as live entertainment from new creatives. There will be refreshments available too.

As with our previous events, we’re also running the Freelancer Ballot to pay 8 freelancers £30 each to attend. Please enter before 11th July. Please share this with anyone who might be interested!

Creative WhatsApp Group:

I’m admin of a WhatsApp Group for creatives from across BCP to share news, discuss opportunities, and connect with others. We currently have 62 community members and we’d love to welcome more people to create specialist groups. Please email me with your phone number if you’d like to join.

Pavilion Dance South West:

PDSW are currently recruiting for a couple of roles, including Front of House assistants and a Trainee Theatre Technician through the Breakthrough employability programme. Closing dates are the 20th and 27th July respectively. 

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra:

BSO’s Young Associates programme is a paid eight-month music leader training programme for 18-30 year olds based in the South West who are underrepresented in the arts.

It will immerse you in the world of a community music leader through hands-on training and mentorship and provide a career springboard for two talented young people to develop skills and join a growing network of emerging music leaders. No music leading experience required – we’re looking for potential!

Activate Performing Arts:

Activate are also recruiting through the Breakthrough programme, looking for a Projects Assistant. For more information, check out their website here.

Totton Creative Hub:

Staying Steady: Practical tools for managing anxiety, overwhelm and burnout as a creative.

This one-off session with wellbeing practitioner and Fluid Motion Artistic Director Leigh Johnstone, will offer practical, down-to-earth tools for managing anxiety, navigating pressured moments, and protecting yourself from burnout.

Event: Wednesday 15 July, 6pm-8pm

Sandy Hill Arts:

Sandy Hill arts is home to the widest range of artistic and craft practices including oils, watercolour, mixed media, sculpture, wood carving, metalwork, and writing. There’s a variety of events and courses coming up throughout the summer. Check them out here.

The Script’s the Thing:

The Script’s The Thing 3 will take place on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October 2026 across different venues in Dorchester, perfect for creatives from Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. Submissions for the festival are now open here and the deadline for submissions is Monday 6th July at 9am.
